You Raise Me Up

Sometimes crazy thoughts come to my mind just because of the title.  We humans are so doubters.  We say things like: You Raise Me Up?  What? Who raises me up?  I don’t understand!  Why?  When I get Raised Up, how long do I have to wait before I begin to feel better?

Is You Raise Me Up talking about God?  I guess the interpretation is up to you and me.  Maybe it is describing the love of a trusted friend, parent, life partner.  A good relationship, spiritual or otherwise, is a relationship that is dependable, honest, loyal and strong no matter what is going on.  A good relationship gives you and I the courage to grow, fix our mistakes and try again.  It eases the weight of our troubles and offers a loving hand, all without asking for anything in return or passing judgment.  Not all relationships accomplish these ideals, but the lyrics illustrate a relationship each of us longs to experience.

The lyrics are similar to words that I’d use while journaling after a meditative experience, my words being simpler,  but no less meaningful.  The feeling of calm, inner strength are two of the benefits of meditation that I cherish.

2012 is about positive change, being the best we can be as individuals and as a human race.  Happy 2012 and may your year be all that you want it to be.

You Raise Me UP  Music by Rolf Levland, Lyrics by Brendan Graham

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

There is no life – no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
 sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up… To more than I can be.

You raise me up… To more than I can be.

    these beautiful words and music are here to remind us our duality: strong but fragile at times, independent but sometimes needing someone to lean on , seeking connections while preserving our private space in solitude.
    life is dinamic and we are sitting on a see-saw ,up and down, for different periods of time.
    the down times are preceived to be our weaknesses that we don’t easily disclose,
    and by that we miss out on the possibility to be lifted up by someone who cares,by a smile, or a hug, or a warm glance,or by just listening to us, by just being there,by encouraging words, by a clue that turns around our perspective to the better,by a question that opens up so many doors in our heart and mind, by demonstrating trust in our ability and by showing appreciation to who we are.
    do to otheres what you want to be done to you…especially we are to remember this poes’ lyrics when we deal with children.
    we can raise them up and we can bring them down…our attitude towards them reflects to them their self worth, how lovable they are, that they can be trusted, that they are capable, and that they have our support and love no matter what they do or don’t do, just because they are who they are, the way they are.
    i have the power to make adifference in your life. you have the power to make a difference in mine.
    let’s be considerate and sensitive to each others circumstances, streching a loving hand to hold on to if needed.
